THE RECORD OF THE LIBRARY
HOW HAUSE GREW
Every design system claims its components were needed. Here is the evidence for this one — where each form came from, when it entered, what could not be built without it, and which parts of that history were never written down.
Was HAUSE designed as a taxonomy, or discovered by building?
Discovered — as far as the record goes, which is the honest length of the claim. Of 35 forms, 21 name the chapter they came from, and every one of those came from a real exhibition; 11 also carry the sentence describing what could not be built without them. The remaining 14 predate origin recording: how they were admitted is unresolved, not proven innocent. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence, and this page does not treat it as one.

What was HAUSE before it was a design system for AI?
The first HOUSE repository described itself as a cinematic visual language for ideas, systems and explanations — explicitly not a component library. It already held three voices, motion, Film, Comparison and FollowReveal, and its first extension rule was no generic card kit. The lineage is exhibition, cinematic composition, forms, semantic forms, then AI composition: the machine-readable act vocabulary made an earlier artistic question precise.

02 / THE ORIGINAL INSTINCT
I wanted a website to behave like an exhibition.
Before the component. Before the ontology. Before the AI framing.
ROOM II / TIME
Cinematic does not mean motion.
It means directing attention through time.
ROOM III / SCALE
Not every idea deserves a card.
Some deserve a room.
“A cinematic visual language for ideas, systems and explanations.”
NO GENERIC CARD KIT.
THE QUESTION CHANGED
How should I stage this idea?
Can an AI learn to stage it?
Read, Operate and Watch are not a wrapper around the semantic system. They are its ancestry. The artistic question became a systems question, and the vocabulary of an exhibition became a vocabulary a machine could choose from.
EXPLORE THE SELECTION GRAMMAR ↗The rule is one sentence. The evidence for it is recorded form by form.
DATE IS ACROSS · ORIGIN IS DOWN · A FORM IS A MARK
Select a form to read what could not be built without it. A solid mark carries a recorded cause; a hollow one carries only its origin.
NOT ON THE CHART — 14 FORMS WITH NO RECORDED ORIGIN

They entered the library before recording an origin became doctrine. Their provenance is left blank rather than reconstructed from memory — and if documentary evidence turns up, it arrives with its evidence rather than filling the hole quietly.

THE ADMISSION RULE — DOCTRINE, IN THE PRESENT TENSE
Nothing enters the library without a real page that needed it first. That is the rule the library is run by today, and the manifest enforces the part it can: a form enters in the same change that adds its file, and its origin is recorded where the history is known. What a rule cannot do is reach backwards — so the evidence below is scoped to the forms whose admission was actually written down.
EVIDENCE
Forms naming the chapter they came from
21 of 35, in the manifest, with a date on 8 of them and a stated cause on 11. Every lane on the chart above is a real exhibition — a consumer that needed something the library did not have.
Forms with recorded evidence added to fill a taxonomy gap
Zero of 21. Each recorded origin names a chapter that could not be built without the form — and the three modes were themselves named after the forms existed, not before.
How the 14 unrecorded forms were admitted
Unresolved, and left that way. They predate origin recording, so the manifest cannot show they came from real pages — and it cannot show they did not. Absence of evidence of taxonomy-filling is not evidence that none occurred, and this page will not spend the one to buy the other.
Forms with a second exhibition behind them
17 of 35 record a reuse — a second exhibition using the form for real work rather than exhibiting a specimen of it. Both exhibitions are by one author, which is the weakest admissible evidence of generality, and the library says so rather than counting it as proof. The test that matters is a consumer whose content has nothing to do with the one the form was born in.
Origins reconstructed to complete the record
Zero. The 14 without one are shown as having none — the manifest's own rule, which is what lets the row above stay honestly open rather than quietly closing.

WHAT THE SHAPE SAYS
One consumer supplied most of the library: vindex3 (18), the codex (2), hause.design (1). That is not a boast — it is the honest weakness of a young design system. A form generalises when its props stop knowing whose content they carry, and a form that has only ever served one exhibition has been tested against one kind of content. The second consumer is where a library finds out what it actually built.
